Yawarj Mara – Strong Pathways for Youth
Yawarj Mara aims to bring together Aboriginal Youth into the Yawarj Mara, Strong Pathways program to provide opportunities to facilitate the empowerment of Aboriginal Youth, on the Northside of Canberra (Greater Belconnen, Gungahlin and North Canberra).
We strive for our Community to improve their social and emotional wellbeing by learning about their culture, through:
- Song
- Dance
- Sport
- Mentoring
- Life-Skills and Education
- Referral Pathways
They will develop their natural talents, and their skills in decision-making, cooperation, reciprocity, and setting high expectations for themselves and their peers. Yawarj Mara will assist our youth to lead healthier, more active lives, to thrive, and be well.

Our aim – Aboriginal Youth will have:
- Enhanced cultural pride, connectedness and identity
- Increased participation in community events
- Increased sense of belonging to the community
- Increased confidence
- Improved access to earlier intervention and prevention and lead healthier lifestyles through enhanced physical activity and knowledge on the benefits of better nutritional choices.
